Day 1 :

KATHMANDU: ARRIVAL DAY

Kathmandu: 1,350m/4,593ft Your Everest Base Camp trek typically starts in Kathmandu, the vibrant capital of Nepal. Trekkers often spend a day or two here, exploring ancient temples, bustling markets, and preparing for the trek ahead.

Day 2 :

KATHMANDU to LUKLA to PHAKDING

Lukla: 2,880m/9,383 ft Phakding: 2,610m/8,563ft Height gain: -270m/-820ft Flight: 47 minutes (Kathmandu to Lukla) : 15 minutes (Ramechhap to Lukla) after a 4.5 hours' drive from Kathmandu. Walking Distance: 7.8 km (3-4 hours) Difficulty: Easy From Kathmandu, a scenic flight takes you to Lukla, the gateway to the Khumbu region. This thrilling flight offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas. Lukla is where your trek truly begins. The first day of trekking usually involves a hike to Phakding (a lunch and dinner spot post breakfast at Lukla). The trail follows the Dudh Koshi River, passing through picturesque villages and lush forests. Phakding serves as the first overnight stop. NOTE: Flights mostly take place directly from Kathmandu to Lukla. However, during the peak trekking seasons, trekkers would also have to look for an alternative route Kathmandu-Ramechhap-Lukla to avoid having to wait for weeks to find a plane ticket due to heavy air traffic issues. As mentioned above, in case of unavailability of plane tickets we will have to divert our route through Ramechhap. Upon the arrival at Lukla, the trek will continue as mentioned in the itinerary.

Day 3 :

PHAKDING TO NAMCHE BAZAAR

Phakding: 2,610m/8,563ft Namche: 3,440m/11,286ft Height gain: 830m/2,723ft Walking Distance: 12 km (6.5-7 hours) Difficulty: Hard En route from Phakding (breakfast place) to Namche Bazaar, the trekkers will come across the famous Tenzing-Hillary bridge near Jorsalle (lunch place), where almost every trekker who have been there takes a picture with the bridge. After an approximately 6.5+ hours walk, the trekkers will enter Namche with a welcoming view of the mountains kissed by the afternoon setting sun. On this day, you will get to view the first view of Everest from Top Dada, on the way to Namche.

Day 4 :

NAMCHE ACCLIMATIZATION DAY

Namche: 3,440m/11,286ft Everest View Hotel: 3,880m/12,729ft Height gain: 440m/1,443ft Walking Distance: 6 km (5 hours) Difficulty: Medium After the morning breakfast, the trekkers will be visiting the Sagarmatha National Park, from where you can view the 360degree panoramic scenery of Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt, Nuptse, Mt. Amadablam, Mt. Thamserku, Mt. Tabuche, Mt. Peak 38, Mt. Kongde, and many more. The National Park offers a sight of the Wildlife and Local Culture of Khumbu in the museum that is within the National Park area. There is also a statue of the legendary Climber Mr. Tenzing Norgay Sherpa. Once we're done with the sight-seeing, we shall proceed our hiking towards the famous Everest View Hotel, where we will again be sight-seeing with a great cup of tea. The trekkers can shop for their trekking items at Namche, as and if required.

Day 5 :

NAMCHE BAZAAR TO PHORTSE

Day 5 : NAMCHE BAZAAR TO PHORTSE Namche: 3,440m/11,286ft Phortse: 3,840m/12,598ft Height gain: 400m/1,312ft Walking Distance: 10km (6 hours) Difficulty: Medium Phortse Village is an ideal overnight stop during the Everest Base Camp trek. Its serene atmosphere, stunning views, and authentic Sherpa hospitality make it a perfect resting place with the local tea houses. Experience the warmth of local homestays and immerse yourself in the rich Sherpa culture before continuing your trek with local Sherpa foods to your liking.

Day 6 :

PHORTSE TO DINGBOCHE

Phortse: 3,840m/12,598ft Dingboche: 4,410m/14,469ft Height gain: 570m/1871ft Walking Distance: 11km (6 hours) Difficulty: Medium Dingboche Village is a treasured stopover during the Everest Base Camp trek. Surrounded by majestic peaks, it offers a glimpse into the warm hospitality and rich Sherpa culture. Visitors can savor local delicacies, witness traditional ceremonies, and explore ancient monasteries. The trekkers lunch place for the day is Somare. Dingboche is renowned for its breathtaking views, making it a cherished destination for trekkers seeking both natural beauty and cultural richness. If you're lucky, you may not want to miss trying the local Seabuckthorn juice while you're in the village.

Day 7 :

DINGBOCHE REST/ACCLIMATIZATION DAY

Dingboche: 4,410m/14,469ft Nang kartshang Hill: 5,121m/16,801ft Height gain: 711m/2,332ft Walking Distance: 2.5 hours/1.5 hours (to and fro) Difficulty: Hard On this particular day, once we have our breakfast, we will hike to Nang Kartshang Hill, a walkable peak above the Dingboche village. The locals call the peak as Nangar-JOONG. Trekkers can view mountains like Kangtega, Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Lhotse, Makalu, Taboche, and many more from the peak. The "rest-day" at Dingboche village is followed by the escalation of heights to EBC, Kalapatthar, and so on.

Day 8 :

DINGBOCHE TO CHHUKUNG

Dingboche: 4,410m/14,469ft Chhukung: 4,730m/15,518ft Height gain: 320m/1,049.86ft Walking Distance: 4.5km Difficulty: Easy The morning breakfast takes place at Dingboche, followed by lunch at Chhukung. Then, the trekkers will take a hike to Chhukung-ri (5,546m/18195.54ft), and hike to the top (if possible), else the team will return back to Chhukung, where the team will enjoy their dinner and call it a night.

Day 9 :

CHHUKUNG TO ISLAND PEAK BASE CAMP

Chhukung: 4,730m/15,518ft Island Peak Base Camp: 5,087m/16,690ft Height gain: 357m/1,171ft Walking Distance: 3-4km Difficulty: Hard We begin the day with a hearty breakfast at Chhukung, fueling ourselves for the adventure ahead. Our journey progresses as we trek towards the awe-inspiring Island Peak Base Camp, surrounded by breathtaking Himalayan vistas. Along the way, we share laughter and stories, fostering a sense of camaraderie among fellow trekkers. Upon reaching the Base Camp, we enjoy a delicious lunch and later, a satisfying dinner, replenishing our energy for the challenges that lie ahead. The hike to Island Peak Base Camp not only offers stunning landscapes but also strengthens the bond within our group, creating unforgettable moments on this Himalayan expedition.

Day 10 :

ISLAND PEAK SUMMIT DAY AND BACK TO CHHUKUNG

Island Peak Base Camp: 5,087m/16,690ft Chhukung: 4,730m/15,518ftHeight gain: Walking Distance: 16-20km Difficulty: Extreme On the highly anticipated Island Peak Summit Day, we, the trekkers, kick-start the morning with a fortifying breakfast at the Island Peak Base Camp, gearing up for the monumental challenge ahead. Carrying packed lunches from Base Camp, we embark on a moonlit ascent to the peak, commencing between 12 a.m. and 1 a.m. The ethereal night sky sets the stage for an exhilarating climb. Upon conquering the summit and soaking in panoramic views, we descend to Chhukung. A well-deserved dinner in Chhukung becomes a celebratory feast, marking the triumphant conclusion of an awe-inspiring day filled with perseverance and breathtaking achievements.

Day 11 :

CHHUKUNG TO PANGBOCHE

Chhukung: 4,730m/15,518ft Pangboche: 3,985m/13,074ft Walking Distance: 10-12km Difficulty: Moderate Commencing our day with a wholesome breakfast in Chhukung, we, the trekkers, set out on a picturesque journey toward Pangboche. En route, we pause for a satisfying lunch at Somare, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Himalayas. The trail unfolds with breathtaking views, fostering a sense of camaraderie among us. As the day progresses, we reach Pangboche, where a hearty dinner awaits, providing both nourishment and a chance to reflect on the day's trekking experiences. This leg of the journey not only showcases the stunning landscapes but also strengthens the bond within our trekking group, creating lasting memories along the trail.

Day 12 :

PANGBOCHE TO NAMCHE

Pangboche: 3,985m/13,074ft Namche Bazaar: 3,440m/11,286ft Walking Distance: 10-12km Difficulty: Moderate Embarking on a new day of adventure, we, the trekkers, begin with a hearty breakfast in Pangboche, surrounded by the Himalayan charm. Our journey unfolds as we trek towards Namche, making a midday stop for lunch at the scenic Phunge Thanga. The trail offers awe-inspiring vistas, fostering a sense of camaraderie among us. Upon reaching Namche, a well-deserved dinner awaits, providing both sustenance and an opportunity to share the day's experiences. Adding a cultural touch to our trek, we visit the Tengboche Monastery, immersing ourselves in the spiritual ambiance and marveling at the Himalayan panorama. This day encapsulates the essence of our trek—scenic landscapes, camaraderie, and cultural enrichment.

Day 13 :

NAMCHE TO LUKLA

We, the trekkers, traverse the scenic trail towards Lukla, pausing for a delightful lunch in Phakding amidst the tranquil surroundings. The camaraderie among us grows stronger as we share stories and relish the last leg of our Himalayan adventure. Upon reaching Lukla, a sense of accomplishment fills the air, and we gather for a celebratory dinner, reminiscing about the incredible journey. This final day encapsulates the spirit of our trek—breathtaking landscapes, shared experiences, and a shared sense of achievement.

Day 14 :

LUKLA TO KATHMANDU

Altitude: 1350m/4428ft Flight time: 35 min So, as the trek will have come to an end, the trekkers will be seen off by the team members at Lukla, to Kathmandu, where you will be having your breakfast of the day. NOTE: Flights mostly take place directly from Lukla to Kathmandu. However, during the peak trekking seasons, trekkers would also have to look for an alternative route Lukla-Ramechhap-Kathmandu to avoid having to wait for weeks to find a plane ticket due to heavy air traffic issues. As mentioned above, in case of unavailability of plane tickets we will have to divert our route through Ramechhap. Upon the arrival at Ramechhap by air, you will have to take roadways to Kathmandu through a 4-5 hours' drive.

DEPARTURE FROM KATHMANDU

Hence, there will be no refunds if the trek itinerary changes or the trekker is unable to complete the trek. Apart from the trekker alone, there are more than one party (guide, porter, hotels) who have to bear the opportunity costs for these treks.

Do I need to tip the guides and porters?

While it is mostly based on the personal choices of the trekkers, tipping (60-40)% is highly advisable. Tipping doesn’t necessarily have to be in Nepalese currencies as you can tip guides and porters in dollars and euro, as most trekkers are seen doing.
